SmallBiz_handlaptopDon’t just advocate Small Businesses this Saturday, utilize Small Businesses ALL year round. Everyone talks about improving the economy and creating new jobs… and Small Businesses actually DO THAT! They provide 55% of all jobs and 66% of all net new jobs since the 1970s1 . 54% of ALL U.S. sales comes from 28 million small businesses. Buying from small businesses is good for America and good for you!

Help a Corporate CEO or a Guy Paying his Mortgage?

SMallBiz_11_01Recent commercials stated something to the effect of: “When you buy from large businesses, more money goes to the CEO’s multi-million dollar paychecks, when you buy from small businesses, the money goes to someone’s mortgage or college fund”. And it’s true. As a Small Business owner, I firmly believe that everyone should advocate more small businesses more so than larger ones. The corporate giants are rich enough. Small business owners added 8 million new jobs since 1990, while big business eliminated 4 million.

Ironically…

Small Business Saturday is owned (trademarked) by a large corporation. Yes. American Express created Small Business Saturday to (theoretically) help out it’s primary market (which is small business. It was a brilliant move on their part (their job is make profits and supporting small business helps them do that!) AND… it helps small businesses.
